Extending urban stocks and flows analysis to urban greenhouse gas emission accounting: A case of Odense, Denmark

نویسندگان

چکیده

Cities generate greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions both in the construction phase of their built environment stocks and durable goods operation with energy material flows. Existing urban GHG accounting methods, however, focus largely on related to flows have rarely considered role stocks. In this article, we extended analysis accounting, using bottom-up high-resolution information for a case Odense, Denmark. We introduced complementary indicator carbon replacement value (CRV) account embodied determined CRV Odense as 10.7 megatons CO2 equivalent (or 53 metric tons per capita) 2017, 13 years Odense's operational emissions. The comparison between across activities facilitates better understanding profile city opportunities decarbonization. Such metabolic based inclusion can help estimate amount be expected from further urbanization developing countries continue increase inform potentials leapfrogging emission reduction.

Greenhouse Gas Emissions Accounting of Urban Residential Consumption: A Household Survey Based Approach

Devising policies for a low carbon city requires a careful understanding of the characteristics of urban residential lifestyle and consumption. The production-based accounting approach based on top-down statistical data has a limited ability to reflect the total greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from residential consumption. In this paper, we present a survey-based GHG emissions accounting methodo...

Greenhouse Gas Emission Accounting and Management of Low-Carbon Community

As the major source of greenhouse gas (GHG) emission, cities have been under tremendous pressure of energy conservation and emission reduction for decades. Community is the main unit of urban housing, public facilities, transportation, and other properties of city's land use. The construction of low-carbon community is an important pathway to realize carbon emission mitigation in the context of...

Estimating Urban-scale Greenhouse Gas Emissions

A compact commercial Doppler lidar has been deployed in Indianapolis for two years to measure wind profiles and mixing layer properties as part of project to improve greenhouse measurements from large area sources. The lidar uses vertical velocity variance and aerosol structure to measure mixing layer depth. Comparisons with aircraft and the NOAA HRDL lidar generally indicate good performance, ...

Economic assessment of climate adaptation options for urban drainage design in Odense, Denmark.

Climate change is likely to influence the water cycle by changing the precipitation patterns, in some cases leading to increased occurrences of precipitation extremes. Urban landscapes are vulnerable to such changes due to the concentrated population and socio-economic values in cities. Feasible adaptation requires better flood risk quantification and assessment of appropriate adaptation action...

The Indianapolis Flux Experiment (INFLUX): A test-bed for developing urban greenhouse gas emission measurements

The objective of the Indianapolis Flux Experiment (INFLUX) is to develop, evaluate and improve methods for measuring greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from cities. INFLUX’s scientific objectives are to quantify CO2 and CH4 emission rates at 1 km2 resolution with a 10% or better accuracy and precision, to determine whole-city emissions with similar skill, and to achieve high (weekly or finer) tempo...
